Discarded: Silence, 2010

Digital photographs of performance

10.2 x 15.2 and 15.2 x 10.2 cm; album 21.6 x 21.6 cm (4 x 6” and 6 x 4”; album 8 ½ x 8 ½”)

These are three of nineteen photographs from an album that documents a fifty-minute performance I did on February 25, 2010, that took place in the hallway outside the main office of the School of the Arts at McMaster University. The performance was intended as a disruption of institutional space at a time when the Art History program was under threat of closure. I performed a series of yoga asanas (poses) in order to stage a meaningful personal practice in an unsettling professional environment. I invited senior students and colleagues from the Art program to attend and later, in 2016, exhibited the photographs in album format. Since this performance I did training and certified as a 200-Hour Kripalu Vinyasa Yoga Instructor.
